Epoxy Injection Resins

Epoxy resin: EP resins for structural bonding

Structural bonding is obtained by means of low viscosity and high viscosity epoxy injection resins. Epoxy resin provides for permanent bonding even of smallest cracks and crack ramifications in concrete and masonry thanks to its high adhesive tensile strength and inherent strength.

WEBAC EP injection resins are compatible with masonry mortar, concrete, steel, foil and cable sheathing. WEBAC EP resin is also very resistant to salts, lyes and acids which may damage the building structure.

Preparatory work

Structural analysis before the injection:

  • Structural condition
  • Hydrodynamic and hydrostatic conditions
  • Cavities

Please also note when repairing cracks:

  • Overall crack situation
  • Significance of cracks for the building structure
  • Crack characteristics (crack type, crack course, crack width, crack width modification, etc.)

This provides information on:

  • Cause of damage
  • Selection of suitable filling materials
  • Choice of drill-hole packers
  • Positioning of drill holes

When using epoxy resin in masonry, all loose plaster layers in the area of the injection level must first be removed and all porous joints and defective masonry areas be patched with quick-setting cement. The cracks to be filled must be free of dirt, oil, grease and other separative substances. The crack edges must also be cleaned. When using surface packers for the epoxy injection, EP putty is used for installing the surface packers and for patching the cracks. The surfaces of the structural elements to be patched must be prepared such that sufficient adhesion of the patching (>1.5 N/mm²) is ensured.

Application of WEBAC epoxy resin

The injection pressure during the injection depends on the nature and condition of the building structure. Start the injection by filling the lowest crack areas with epoxy resin first. In case of horizontal cracks, carry out the injection from one side in order to avoid air inclusions. When injecting the last packer check the air vent for emerging resin. A secondary injection should be carried out within the gelling phase of the material (up to approx. 30 min after end of workable life). Please note when applying epoxy resins: the reaction speed is influenced by the temperature of the material and the structural element. Higher temperatures accelerate the reaction speed and lower temperatures slow it down. Only inject pure WEBAC epoxy resin free of residues from cleaning agents or other foreign matter.

Application by 1C pump:

  • Transfer the mixed material to the pump’s hopper
  • Stir briefly

The material's workable life may be reduced due to the inherent heat of the injection pump. As soon as the material in the pump's hopper heats up it must either be used up immediately or removed from the pump.

Epoxy resin: final work

  • Once the material has cured, knock off the patching, if applicable, and remove the packers
  • Close the drill holes with suitable mineral building materials and re-profile the surface
