Epoxy Coating Systems

EP Primers: epoxy resin primer as scratch primer and leveling finish

WEBAC epoxy primer is suitable as primer, scratch primer and leveling finish
Epoxy primers from WEBAC provide resistant bonding layers for oily, damp and slightly absorptive substrates. Our primers and coatings are compatible with concrete, steel, masonry mortar, foil and cable sheathing. Epoxy primers, epoxy mortars and special EP primers from WEBAC are also resistant to diluted acids and lyes. The same applies to lubricants, oils and fuels.

Epoxy Coatings

Roller and leveling coatings: hard-wearing coatings for stress-resistant surfaces
Robust coatings for industrial surfaces and floor spaces – WEBAC offers leveling coatings and roller coatings for this purpose. Pigmented leveling coatings and roller coatings from WEBAC provide resistant finishes highly resistant to mechanical stress.

OS 8 Coating

Surface protection for car parks and underground car parks
WEBAC offers the coating system WEBAC OS 8 based on epoxy resin for use in indoor car parks and underground car parks. The surface protection system (OS 8) consists of the primer WEBAC® 4290 and the coating WEBAC® 4490. This surface resin coating is based on low viscosity epoxy resins for making surface protection systems of class OS 8. The WEBAC coating according to OS 8 is resistant to diluted acids, lyes, saline solutions and oils.

Preparatory work

Structural analysis:

  • Inspection of the substrate Moisture condition (dry, damp or wet)

    • Surface strength (> 1.5 N/mm²)
    • Concrete quality (moderate stress: C 20/25, as of medium stress: C 30/37)
    • Condition of the surface (soiled, oily)

  • Observe dew point (the substrate temperature must be 3 °C above dew point temperature to avoid condensation)

This provides information on:

  • Selection of suitable primer and coating

The substrate must be open-pored. It must also be free of cement paste layers, loose particles and separative substances such as oil, grease and similar. Cracks in the substrate must be closed by means of impregnation or injection.

Application

The amount of epoxy primer or epoxy mortar applied and its inherent temperature influence the workable life. Higher temperatures speed up and lower temperatures slow down the reaction. The curing time is influenced by the layer thickness and the temperature of the building structure. The curing time is longer at low temperatures of the building structure. WEBAC primer and coating may only be applied in pure form – without any residues from cleaning agents or other foreign matter.

Primer
Apply WEBAC epoxy resin primer to the substrate by brush, roller or squeegee. Apply the material evenly covering the entire surface, avoiding puddle formation. It depends on the substrate's absorbency whether one or several applications are necessary. The primer must be worked in thoroughly on oily substrates. The epoxy resin primer must fill all pores and cavities in the surface. It is not necessary to scatter stoved quartz sand onto the primer if it is overcoated within 24 hours.

Bonding finish, leveling finish, scratch mortar
When using WEBAC epoxy resin as bonding finish, leveling finish or scratch mortar, first fill the material with stoved quartz sand. Then mix well and distribute the mixture on the surface by trowel, blade or squeegee immediately after mixing. The material can be additionally rendered thixotropic by adding the set-up agent WEBAC® ST200 or WEBAC® ST300 when working on sloping or vertical surfaces. If necessary, vent the bonding and leveling finish with a porcupine roller. In addition, it is recommended to scatter stoved quartz sand on the finish.

Leveling coating
The surface to be coated must first be primed. The coating is then applied to the primed surface at the desired film thickness by blade, trowel or serrated trowel immediately after mixing. It must then be vented with a porcupine roller.

Roller coating
Pigmented roller coatings are applied with a lamb's wool roller or paint brush. When working on large surfaces, the material can be distributed on the surface with a squeegee and then be treated with a lamb's wool roller. The coating will vent automatically without additional secondary treatment.

OS 8 Coating System

  • Primer: WEBAC® 4290 Scattering with 0.3–0.8 mm quartz sand (approx. 0.3–0.4 kg/m²)
  • Intermediate coat: WEBAC® 4490 Scattering with 0.3–0.8 mm quartz sand (approx. 0.8 kg/m²)
  • Topcoat and sealer: WEBAC® 4490 (approx. 0.6 kg/m²)

The primer of the OS 8 coating is applied to the substrate by flat trowel, float, squeegee, trowel, blade or roller. The material must be applied evenly covering the entire surface, avoiding puddle formation. The primer must fill all pores and cavities evenly. The coating according to OS 8 is applied by roller or paint brush or distributed on the surface with a squeegee.

Cleaning

Clean the equipment with WEBAC® Cleaner A any time work is interrupted for a longer period of time and after use Never use WEBAC® Cleaner A for diluting products; avoid mixing with the coating material Use WEBAC® Cleaner B for etching all material already cured Observe the technical data sheets of the cleaners used
